and the Jeep Club. If you would like any more information regarding membership
or any other aspect of the club please contact our club Membership Officer.
Do I need to be a member to go wheeling with you?
If you are invited by a Jeep Club member or would like to experience a Jeep Club outing before deciding whether its really for you we are happy for you to join us on one of our trips. If you enjoy the trip we would encourage you to become a member and continue joining our regular outings, club meetings and social events.
As a club we do have some rules about the number of trips you may attened as a visitor before you have to become a member of the club.
What kind of equipment do I need to take with me on a trip?
At the very minimum, you should have:
- Front and rear recovery points (tow hooks) - Please note that not all vehicles are fitted with these as standard accessories - many vehicles have what appear to be recovery points, but are in fact only tie down points for transportation purposes, JOCWA recommends that you check with a suitably qualified mechanic or engineer to confirm that you have adequate recovery points;
- A full size spare tire;
- A UHF radio (handheld or car mounted) as Trip leaders will communicate instructions and directions via UHF during each outing.
Also recommended are;
- A recovery kit including; Snatch-strap, rated shackles, shovel and tools.
- A 12V car compressor (many trips require the need to reduce tyre pressures for comfort or in the case of driving on sand to actually be able to navigate the terrain), a compressor allows you to alter your tyre pressures as and when necessary
- A first aid kit
- A fire extinguisher
Depending on the length of the trip, you should also bring sufficient food for the duration of the trip and plenty of water.
How long do trips usually last?
Trip lengths can vary depending on location and the number of vehicles attending however a normal day usually takes 6 to 8 hours. Generally the more vehicles, the longer a trip is likely to last. Some trail runs are planned with overnight camping trips. Do I have to own a Jeep to become a JOCWA member?
No, if your vehicle has 4-wheel drive and Low range, you're welcome to
join. |
